Director's Outlook

Nearly 200 years ago, the British and Foreign Bible Society established a work here in Newfoundland and Labrador. The ministry was lay driven and as such, dedicated volunteers gave of their every resource with a driving passion to see the scriptures take their proper place in the churches and society, both in our province and around the world. Travel was hard and money was scant, but dedication and hard work blazed an unbroken trail to where we are today. Currently, as a member of The Canadian Bible Society, though the faces have changed, the core of our stated and magnificent mission has not – to see the Bible become available to every person in their own language and at a price they can afford. In our bid to accomplish that mission, our major partner has been the church. The Canadian Bible Society are ‘second stringers’. We stand behind the front line church and continually ask them what their scripture needs are as they contend for the gospel. That is clearly our God ordained role – to serve the Lord by serving His church. ?

In our district, our desire is to stay current and razor sharp in delivering our mission. We are passionate about ensuring that we respond to the scripture needs of the local church as well as provide a trusted conduit through which the local church can engage in the bible cause throughout the world. We are convinced that we can provide exciting opportunities to extend the reach of the local church right from the shores of our peaceful island – right into the heart of some of the most economically and socially challenged parts of our world. We are very interested in engaging the church in a conversation about the exciting prospects of effective ministry we can have together. ?

Thank you for nearly two centuries of support and prayer. Please don’t hesitate to contact us for a greater dialogue about anything you may read on this site. ?

Together we can touch the world!?

God bless you!
