Director's Outlook

Forrest Gump famously said "Life Is like a Box of Chocolates... You Never Know What You're Gonna Get!" Life here in the Saskatchewan district of the Canadian Bible Society is a bit like that box of chocolates. Changes are coming to us faster than many of us have the ability to process. I occasionally feel like those two rather “seasoned” gentlemen sitting in easy chairs outside a bank reminiscing about the “good old days”. There are days that I feel like shouting “Make it all stop!”

But change comes at us every day. We even see it in our bodies. My body isn’t able to do all it was able to do 10, 20 and 30 years ago. Pictures of my grandson born on September 25 remind me that we all started out that way but thankfully we have all changed. We are told by biologists that every seven years all the cells in our bodies are replaced. I am literally not the same person that I was in 2002 when I first accepted this position.

There are some people who see all change as loss, but is it? Our store closed on August 28. Does this mean that our retail presence in Saskatchewan has also come to an end? Absolutely not! Through a network of Congregational Representatives you will be given opportunities to buy CBS product through catalogues in your home church. If you live in Saskatoon you will be able to visit Scott’s Parable to buy  CBS products that they have for sale. Other retail locations will soon have more CBS products on their shelves. A quick phone call to our store in Calgary will give you access to the full line of our products. Their number is 1 (403) 261-4827 and the store is located at 225 - 10 Street NW if you want to take a trip to Calgary.

On September 30 we finished removing all the contents of our premises on Louise. The stock was sent to Toronto, Calgary and Edmonton and all the ministry material was put into a storage container on the parking lot in the back. I became officially homeless. What is going to happen to our ministry presence in Saskatchewan? A chocolate that began with a bit of a bitter taste has become much more palatable. A home has been located and it isn’t in an old cardboard box in a back alley. We have just signed a lease on a beautiful new office location in the north end of the city. We will be on the second floor of the building at 401-43rd St E. It’s corner of Faithfull and 43rd. We have a new mailing address – Box 1931 Saskatoon, SK S7K 3S5. All other contact information has remained the same – phone numbers and e-mail address.

The space we have rented is a little more than we actually need at this time so if you are part of a ministry or know of a ministry that wouldn’t mind sharing space with us, give me a call.

Next time you’re in Saskatoon stop in and see me at the new office. We can talk about chocolates and how the Riders will win the Grey Cup.

Keep the Son in your eyes,
