Are you interested in joining our team in this exciting and re-energized adventure providing people with access to God’s Word? The Canadian Bible Society (CBS) is looking for a Director of Development, Marketing and Communications, a Finance Manager and a Volunteer Coordinator.

Director of Development, Marketing & Communications

The Director, DMC will lead an integrated development, marketing and communications team involving staff and volunteers and will work collaboratively with the Board of Governors (BoG), SMT, Regional Councils / District Boards, churches and partners to create and implement key strategies.

Responsibilities:

  • Create and implement a fundraising plan involving individual donors, businesses, government and foundations in the cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship of: direct mail, major gift, legacy, corporate and foundation donations including in-kind donations; grant applications and special events.
  • Create successful marketing initiatives that lead to future measurable increased engagement and revenue generation;
  • Lead communications strategies to educate constituents, cultivate their support and provide strong public relations.
  • Effectively utilizing internal and external print and electronic media including the management of the Society’s internal and external websites and social media.
  • Provide internal training resources encouraging and promoting a fundraising culture within CBS;
  • Work collaboratively with internal departments such as human resources on brand recognition and effective communications with staff and volunteers;
  • Participate with the SMT including work on special projects;

Requirements:

  • A demonstrated multi-year track record of success in a relevant role, for example as a development, marketing and communication’s executive with a non-profit organization;
  • A university degree, preferably a master’s degree, in business, non-profit management, fundraising, marketing and / or communications;
  • Demonstrated experience using development, marketing and communications skills to take an organization beyond the status quo;
  • Strong communicator with an ability to effectively communicate in English. Fluency in French also preferred;
  • Developed and managed successful teams;
  • Self-confident while still being humble and authentic;
  • Self-motivated, self-starter, proactive, determined, demonstrates management courage;
  • Resilient, ability to not let adverse conditions negatively impact leadership;
  • Promotes culture of integrity, values driven;
  • Willingness to travel nationally and occasionally internationally.

Finance Manager

The Finance Manager will report to the CFO and lead a team in support of the financial objectives for the organization through an integrated financial management strategy involving staff, consultants and volunteers and working collaboratively with the Board of Governors (BoG), SMT, Regional Councils/District Boards, churches, partners and constituents.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Budgeting
    • Working directly with the CFO and management to prepare and finalize annual budgets and forecasts.
  • Treasury
    • Monitoring all banking transactions and balances.
    • Managing credit card accounts.
  • Customer Service
    • Responding to internal and external service requests.
  • Administrative
    • Acting as back up to the CFO and other Finance & Accounting staff as required.
    • Providing effective communication and leadership to a small team.
    • Maintaining investment files.
  • United Bible Society
    • Oversee the recording, reconciling and preparing reports required to settle projects and other accounts.
  • Financial Systems and Reports
    • Reviewing month-end and year-end closing, reconciliations, assembly, and commentary for monthly financial statements and reports.
    • Oversee the settings in the financial system (currently NAV) to streamline systems and processes for the organization.
  • Year-End Audit
    • Managing year-end audit process, and act as the liaison with the lead auditor on-site.
  • Reports and Returns
    • Managing annual T3301 and CCCC returns and all other Federal and Provincial reports and returns.
  • Participate in special projects
    • Working collaboratively on projects, which may include IT related projects, as part of the strategic plan.

Volunteer Coordinator

The Volunteer Coordinator will report to the Director of Human Resources and work collaboratively with the Board of Governors (BoG), Senior Management Team (SMT), other staff, Regional Councils / District Boards, churches and partners to support the successful implementation of annual plan objectives related to our Volunteers including:

  • Working closely with the Regional Directors and other regional staff to develop and maintain a strong volunteer function and processes, including the Congregational Representative (CR) program.
  • Developing better processes and programs to assist employees with volunteer management responsibilities including but not limited to recruitment, orientation, training, objectives, and reward and recognition.
  • Maintaining an up-to-date and accurate listing of volunteers in Raiser’s Edge.
  • Developing new innovative ways to reach, attract and engage volunteers.

Requirements:

  • Five (5) or more years of demonstrated successful experience leading a volunteer program, preferably in a non-profit, Ministry and multiple-office context;
  • College or university degree in non-profit management or a related discipline preferred;
  • Advanced knowledge of CBS through previous work experience preferred.
  • Demonstrated effective communication skills (written and verbal).
  • Known strengths and weakness, understands impact of themselves on others, knows what makes others tick;
  • Open to feedback, willingness to learn and commitment to help others learn and grow;
  • Strong organizational skills, attention to detail and ability to multi-task under pressure;
  • Experience working on projects related to new systems and processes;
  • Maintains a high-level of confidentiality.
