Pray with the Bibles Societies

FEBRUARY - Week 2

New Zealand: This year we are providing Bibles for use during Religious Education classes in elementary schools. This means that 32,500 children will have Bibles to use during these lessons. Many of them will not have used a Bible before: ask God to bless this program. Pray that the reformatted New Zealand Maori Bible is widely accepted and used, and for creative projects to engage younger people in the Bible Society’s mission.

South Pacific: Praise God for opportunities to share God’s Word. Our annual Bible Week activities at the end of June challenge people to read, respect and follow the Bible. Please pray for our celebrations this year, which include Bible reading marathons, youth rallies, Bible quizzes, Bible studies radio broadcasts and promotional visits to churches. Please pray for the impact of Bible Week across the islands that we serve. Pray especially that our young people embrace the Gospel and become godly leaders and parents of tomorrow.

Papua New Guinea: Praise God for an exciting expansion of our literacy project with prisoners. Several former prisoners have returned home and started Biblebased literacy programs, while other prisoners are translating Bible stories into their indigenous languages for use in churches and primary schools. There are 840 languages here, and reading materials are scarce: what better materials to provide than Bible stories? Join us in giving thanks to God for these opportunities.

CANADIAN BIBLE SOCIETY PRAYER NEEDS

• Pray that Bible work can continue effectively around the world despite wars, political tensions, changes in religious climate, economic hardship and frequent natural disasters. Pray for Bible work in countries where distribution is restricted or not permitted at all.

• Pray for translation projects in Canada especially the Inuktitut translation. Pray for the Inuit translation team - Benjamin Arreak, Jonas Allooloo, and Joshua Arreak - who have sacrificed much so that their people will receive their long-awaited complete Bible.

• Pray for sufficient financial support from churches, individuals and organizations to maintain Bible translation work, the supply of subsidized or free Scriptures, and other Bible-based programs.

• Praise God for our partner organizations in Canada that provide us with the opportunity to reach out with God's Word to homeless people, immigrants, young people, new readers and many others. Pray that this work will continue and grow.

• Pray for our soldiers in conflict zones around the world. Praise God for Operation Bible, a joint project of the Canadian military and CBS, which is making a complete Bible in camouflage cover available to all soldiers.

• Please continue to pray for all CBS staff and volunteers. Pray for our National Director, Rev Ted Seres, for the Board of Governors, and for all Directors, as they lead our organization in response to God's call.
